Good practice
Flexibility is often the key and work-life balance policies and practices provide a number of solutions for employees. This section illustrates good practice examples for working carers.
Many employers, such as the members of Employers for Carers, recognise the absolute benefits of employing people with caring responsibilities, for their business, their people and the wider society in which they work.
Flexibility is often the key and work/life balance policies and practices provide a number of solutions for employees regardless of their need.
This section has been developed to help illustrate some of the policies and practices that we as Employers for Carers have identified as beneficial for working carers and have found useful in our own organisations.
Policies (and preparation)
In this section we provide examples of ways in which carers can be supported in your organisation’s policies or guidance, including a sample definition of ‘carers’ and model policies and statements.
Practice
Whether your organisation is large or small, there are a range of things that you can do, and these do not necessarily need to represent a major change in how you operate. Sometimes small and simple adjustments can make a real difference to how well supported carers feel at work.
Promotion
As well as having policies and provisions in place for carers in the workplace it is important to promote them to employees and line managers so that they are aware of their existence.
